Why isn't my business showing up in local search?

There are several reasons your business might not be showing up in local search.

Your Google Business Profile may not be set up correctly, your business information may be inconsistent, your website may not clearly communicate your location, or you may simply be competing against businesses with stronger local visibility.

Your Google Business Profile may need attention

Your Google Business Profile gives Google important information about your business.

Your primary category, services, address or service area, hours, photos, and other details all help Google understand what your business is and when it may be relevant.

If your profile is incomplete, inaccurate, or doesn't accurately represent your business, it can make it harder for Google to connect you with relevant searches.

Your website may not be sending clear local signals

Your website should make it obvious where you operate.

If you're a local business, your important pages should clearly communicate your services and the geographic areas you serve.

That doesn't mean stuffing every town you've ever driven through onto your website. It means providing useful, genuine information about where your business actually operates.

Your business information may be inconsistent

Google can encounter information about your business across your website, directories, social profiles, review platforms, and other websites.

If your business name, address, phone number, services, or other important details don't match, it can make it harder to establish a consistent picture of your business.

Keeping those details accurate across the web is an important part of local SEO.

Your competitors may simply have stronger local visibility

Sometimes nothing is technically wrong.

You may be competing against businesses that have been established longer, have more relevant reviews and mentions, have stronger websites, or have built more authority in your local market.

Local search is competitive, and Google still has to decide which businesses are the most relevant results for a particular search.

You may be looking for the wrong thing

Your business doesn't necessarily need to appear for every local search.

If you're a specialized service, for example, you may have much more value in appearing for specific searches related to what you actually offer than trying to show up for broad searches.

Not showing up in local search doesn't automatically mean your Google Business Profile is broken. The issue could be your profile, website, consistency, competition, or simply the searches you're testing.
